Huang Pu Jiang

Rating: 5/5

The Huang Pu is a 113 kilometres long river flowing through Shanghai. We had a cruise ride there and the cruise looked very grand and beautiful from the outside. On the other hand when I first entered the cruise, I felt that the interior of the cruise was quite comfortable. There were a lot of other tourists that were from other countries on the cruise too and many of the locals there enquired about which country we came from and what school we were in. Most of the class went to the top level of the cruise and I spent most of my time there. At the top level of the cruise, we could see many of the iconic structures of Shanghai there like the Shanghai Pearl Tower. The night scene of Shanghai was really very beautiful and I had learnt that the reason why the government is willing to spend so much money on decorating the buildings for Shanghai was for tourism and advertisement purposes. I also realised that the cruise went in two directions and this was very different from the boat ride we had taken at Yangzhou Grand Canal that only went in one direction. When we were at the top of the cruise, the wind was blowing quite strongly and thus the temperature was quite cooling. In general, the cruise ride was quite enjoyable because we have not only learned something there but also bond as a class through cheering together. One of the things I observed there after alighting the cruise was also that there were people selling toys at the exits of the place. Later on I have came to know that they did so because there would be a higher demand for toys there since there would be more children there and families which came for vacation would be more willing to buy toys for their children.
The boat which we took. As we can see from the photo, the boat we took is very big and is able to fit a lot of people. The boat itself is also very well decorated on the outside that makes the boat looks very grand and beautiful.
Other boats. We took this photo at the top level of the boat we were in and this picture shows the other boats that were also functioning. We realized that there was quite a number of other boats and this therefore shows how attractive Huang Pu Jiang is since there are so many tourists who want to come to this place that even 4-5 such big boats were also not enough to accommodate the people that wants to visit this place.
The skyscrapers seen from the boat. We managed to find out that the reason why the government is willing to spend so much money on decorating these skyscrapers is because of advertising and tourism purposes. One of the buildings which I thought was the most beautiful one was the rightmost building that is supposedly to look like a Samurai sword.
