Tian Zi Fang

rating: 4/5

From this place, I saw old architecture buildings, part of the French Concession, as I walked along the small lanes. The place was preserved and renovated partially, yet it still gave us the feeling of walking along a historical site due to its old buildings and the cables hanging overhead. I also learnt from the tour guide, that it was named after an artist. Even though it was an old and historical location, handmade craft works and tea leaves were still sold there. Modern small businesses as such were opened there, making tianzifang a popular tourist attraction. For example, traditional food were sold there along the street sides while on the other hand, there were foreign bistros opened nearby. Through this, I can see that we can incorporate the old and the new together, improving tourism and preserving culture which is both beneficial for the country. Therefore, I feel that tianzifang is a good location for both the tourism industry and for educational purposes as tourists would be able to admire the historical buildings while they are doing their shopping, and children would be able to learn and see for themselves how French Concession building architecture were like in the past and the kind of houses people in the past used to live in.

The small lanes and buildings of this place are generally quite old but there was still quite a lot of tourists that visited this place. We found the lanes of this place quite confusing since some of us almost got lost but the shops there sells a lot of interesting things such as souvenirs and special products that can rarely be found in Singapore.
